Northstar DH Race #2 7/20/08

Cloudy skies led to a bit of rainy weather at the second Northstar DH race of the season. Team Point One was in full-force to see how well they would do against the local veterans. Northstar is extremely rocky and dusty this time of year, major skills are brought to the table for those who choose to play.

Chris Lauber made a showing in the expert class, but this would be the first race where he was not the oldest. Now 18, he was forced to race in the Northstar expert 18-26 category. Perhaps overpowered and maybe outgunned, Chris still had an impressive showing and managed sixth place.

Alex Amaral was getting quite comfortable on his new Sunday and absolustely spanked the junior expert field, winning by nearly 8 seconds. A few seconds quicker and he would have pulled a top 10 in Pro! Not bad for someone who is barely shy of his 16th birthday.

The rivalry we saw merely a month ago returned as teammates Jimmy Amaral and Ian Massey swapped paint in the pro class. Jimmy was feeling fast on his new Socom all weekend, while Ian was having problems getting his bike properly dialed in. When the clouds cleared and the dust settled, Ian struck the next blow, beating Jimmy by 5 seconds and securing fifth place. Jimmy still had a solid performance with a clean run, not wanting to risk a serious crash on the rocks he took it a little easy. Jimmy-1 Ian-1

Special thanks to Rick Rasmussen for the photos. Be on the look out for Team Point One at maybe another Northstar DH race this summer!

CCCX FINALS! 6/22/08

Dusty trails and broken hearts paved the way for an exciting finale at the CCCX downhill series in Salinas, CA. It was "all in" as points were not doubled for this final round, that meant racers had to secure a larger lead in order to gain the most ground. Attendance seemed low, however that did not damper the spirits of the few who did make the journey.

Scott Seery has had a dominating series in the expert 45-54 class, winning every race. In the hardtail class, he still has put up solid results, 2nd only to race promoter and powerhouse Keith DeFiebre.

Speaking of experts, junior sensation Alex Amaral had another podium finish, only 6 seconds from the top of the box. Alex has been moving up the ranks and will be gunning for a spot on the junior worlds team over the next couple of years! He finished 2nd overall in the series.

Mike Amaral was back to attack at the finals, only 3 1/2 seconds off of 2nd place! You can tell he was hungry for a podium finish as his fitness has been improving daily from the crash back in April.

The race for the top pro finish came down to the wire. President and co-founder, Jimmy Amaral was quoted saying, "my new Socom I think will make me 5 seconds faster." Little did he know, he would actually win by 7 seconds over rival Ian Massey. Ian still took the overall with a slim 5 point win, you know the next series it will be bar to bar!
