CCCX DH #5

Unseasonably warm weather brought temperatures into the upper 90's for race day at CCCX #5 in Salinas, CA. It was certainly noticeable by the lack of a large turnout, but those brave few fought the scorching heat, dripping sweat and dusty, technical course. With only two races to go, point standings are tightening up. Some classes will bring it all the way to the finale on July 5th to decide who will make it or fake it. Point One Racing, as always, was out there running their elite components with their top athletes.

Ian Massey, sleeveless and all, had a few mistakes and barely missed the box in pro men by six tenths of a second.

Keith Morelan has upgraded to pro, riding the DH bike and still looking fast as ever, 6th place on the day for him.

Josh Maurer also has stepped up to pro after last year dominating the sport class. He is definately turning heads and doing it quickly! 10th place.

Scott Seery, with his newly found passion of racing a "klunker" has decided to form his own team, with the help of Point One Racing of course. More details on that to come, but a heavy steel frame, drum brakes and no suspension does not slow him down, 3rd place in single-speed and only a second off of first place. Amazing!

Mike Amaral was only able to take one practice run but that did not keep him from stepping on the box, 4th place on the day and still in contention for a top three finish overall.

I told Allen Stoddard that I was expecting a win out of him, and he did not disappoint, pulling out an impressive win in the pro class! He said he had the run of his life and he was not kidding. Congratulations!

Alex Amaral, so far with an un-defeated win streak in the junior expert class unfortunately had a couple slide outs which cost him the win. He still managed a podium spot and should retain the overall. Good job Alex.
