Suspension Center World Cup Team

Helping to extended Point One Racing's global network is Suspension Center, our partner in Switzerland and the surrounding communities. Aside from being a top-notch bicycle parts distributor and service center, they also sponsor a world cup team. You may have seen posts regarding Emmeline Ragot and her amazing season she is having (another second place finish at Maribor last weekend by only 0.31 seconds!), but there are also a few other riders on the team. Such as: Lars Peyer, Max Remy, Anneke Beerten and David Hosang.

Lars Peyer has been moving up the ranks this year, with a "no chain" race win in Wierihorn, Switzerland last month out of 125 riders, you can be sure he has the necessary skills to perform at the highest level. Here in a practice photo, he is running our limited edition DM:

At round #2 of the IXS European Cup, he placed an impressive 6th place, just a mere fraction of a second off of the box.

Emmeline's has been a serious threat to the overall world cup DH title. With three rounds to go, the points are starting to tighten up. Check out the custom direct-mount that she will be using once the team heads over to Canada for the next race.

Currently, the team is ranked 2nd in 4X and 9th in DH for total UCI points.

A big thanks (and good luck for the rest of the season) to Gery and the rest of the Suspension Center team on behalf of Point One Racing. For more information about the team and company, please visit their website: http://www.suspensioncenter.ch/

Arduum Challenge

This past weekend was the 3rd annual Arduum Challenge in Mission BC and after 22 days of sunshine, the word "Challenge" came heavily into play once the skies opened up and let the rain fall. 200 racers braved the toughest course on the BC Cup circuit and despite the mud, there were a ton of big smiles during the awards.

Point One Racing's Ryan Kuhn entered the stacked field as a typical threat in the Expert 30-39 class, however several unfortunate incidents caused Ryan to DNF. Be sure that he will be back in full force for the next race!

CCCX Cross-Country #9

Last weekend was the time of CCCX Cross-country round #9. Fort Ord in Seaside, CA was the place. Point One Racing's Mike, Jimmy and Alex Amaral showed up to show all the other racers how it was done. Using lightweight components such as our 50mm Split-Second stem and prototype pedals, every time advantage was gained.

Jimmy Amaral quickly moved with the pace and eventually jumped out in front. With his superior descending skills, he was able to make quick work of the field and bring home a victory.

Alex Amaral jumped off the start to try and gap everybody. Using his lightweight bike and bike handling skills, he managed a second place out of ten in the junior class, very impressive for the young 16-year-old.

Mike Amaral had a smaller class, but the competition was every bit as intense. With a struggle early in the race with a few unfortunately mechanicals, he charged hard, but barely missed the box. Stay tuned for the final race this weekend!

Special thanks to Rick Rasmussen for the photos.

Ashland 12-Mile Super D

Point One Racing's own Jordan Lopez spent last weekend up in beautiful Ashland, Oregon for the epic 12-mile Super D and Avid Chainless race. Unfortunately Jordan did not make it out without a few memories that will leave a mark. Please check out his race report:

What a weekend I had in Ashland OR for the 4th Annual 12 Mile Super D, in which I raced in the Pro Men's Category.
After racing this race last year and getting in 2 strong practice runs in on Saturday, I was confident that I would finish with a competitive time.
32 min into my race run and with a mile and a half to go, my front tire clipped a rock over a roller jump and threw me over the bars at 18 mph. I landed on my head and shoulder and my run was finished. Getting up immediately, hoping to finish, I looked at my front wheel and it was completely folded from the impact, my bars were bent and my front break was gone.
From that point, I walked 45 min down the trail to the finish line and headed straight to the nurse station. Upon getting there and taking off the top of my skin suit, I quickly realized that I separated my shoulder. Nathan Riddle, who also had a real bad crash, took my wife and I to the Local Hospital where the ER doctors told me that my shoulder was 4cm out and would probably need surgery.
Yesterday, I had an appointment with my doctor and he confirmed what the doctors in Ashland said and put me in contact with an orthopedic surgeon. I am now waiting to set a date for surgery, but the recovery time is 4-6 weeks. This means that The Downieville AM & Nationals are both out.

With all of this being said, I had an amazing weekend riding & racing with my friends and I am continually reminded of the family atmosphere that is existent within the mt biking world and especially the Pro Group. From Nathan Riddle taking my wife and I to the Hospital to John Wilson finding my wife at the bottom of the hill and bringing her to the nurse station to find me to the well wishes of racers like Jason Moeschler & Eric Carter. I am greatly indebted to people like this and I am blessed to be racing along side of them.

I will keep you all posted on my surgery and recovery process. I have a great friend who has loaned me a stationary bike which I will be riding during this time and I hope to be back racing by the beginning of August.

Thank you all again for your amazing products and consistent support this season, I really appreciate all you have done for me this season so far.

Get well soon Jordan!

CCCX DH #6

The CCCX DH series is starting to come to a close as points are tightening up before the final race in July. Last weekend it was an all out battle between Jimmy Amaral and Ian Massey, same as always it seems. The weather was cool in the morning, but turned into a warm day by the time the race got underway, perfect to allow for that ellusive winning run. The bottom half of the course was completely new, instead of routing riders along a less technical descent. The course shot up a wall ride and it was pinned from there, straight down the hill to the finish line. On one side was a wall, the other was poison oak bushes, and the trail was about two feet wide, six inches deep in dust and off camber. It took some cojones to make it down the hill fast!

Unfortunately, an already dominating force in the junior expert class, Alex Amaral had a serious crash during a practice run. Having come down and flipped over the bars in the new, loose cut out section of the course. He had to be checked out by the EMT's and then sent to the hospital for further tests. He is back to his old self now, but be sure that he will be back to attack at the finals on July 5th.

Allen Stoddard is now a formidable threat in the pro class, winning the previous race and now seems to be fast as ever with a 4th place finish and scoring a podium spot.

Keith Morelan, also now a powerhouse in the pro class has been putting more pressure on the top ranks, and all being 18 years old. Barely missing the box this week, but still having a good finish for the overall.

Scott Seery's off week will easily consistent of a solid finish for anybody else. Having raced the hardtail and single-speed class, he easily came up with two second place finishes. Just remember that it's an off-week for Mr. Seery, you will usually find him and his Point One Racing products at the top of the results.

Josh Maurer, having moved into pro has certainly stepped up his game. After barely missing the top 10, he still scored enough points to keep him 9th in the overall. At this point, it will all come down to the finish next month to see where everybody stands. Josh said he nearly saved a third of a pound by using the Point One Racing DM 31.8mm stem. Not only is the Point One stem lighter, it is far stiffer.

Jimmy Amaral and Ian Massey were too close at this race, with less than a second separating the times, just watching the two it was hard to compare who the real winner was. However the clock does not lie and Jimmy stood on top. This did keep Ian in the overall lead. Stay tuned to see how things end up at the finals.

Mike Amaral was riding so fast, that apparently Rick was not able to take a photo of him. Having secured a podium spot, Mike will keep a solid clamp on second place for the overall. It will come down to the finals to see if Mike can pull off a win and grab the title!

Special thanks to Rick Rasmussen for the photos.

Santa Barbara Bicycle Festival

June 6-7th hosted the annual Santa Barbara Bicycle Festival at Elings Park. The DH course is traditionally non-technical, however the beautiful view and Kenda/US cup points, brings out racers to see how their fitness stacks up on the combined two-run format. The course this year seemed as though the starting was moved up, a few rocks were added, and maybe a new jump or two, but other than that, it is a pedal fest.

Jimmy and Alex Amaral were on form, using their short-travel bikes and confidence (Jimmy is undefeated at Elings), they attacked the course and gained valuable time over their competition. Jimmy ended up winning the Pro class, while Alex easily won Jr. Expert and still had a faster overall time than his older brother. Young grasshopper is learning.

Jordan Lopez is officially a triple-threat. Having competed in the DH, Super-D and XC over the weekend, he managed three podium finishes. Extremely impressive! Please check out his race report:

PRO DH - 3rd of 7
This was a great race which consisted of a 2 run format with a best overall time.
The course was smooth and consisted of mostly bermed turns and smooth transitions.
My first run was smooth and with a little bobble and I found myself in 2nd place. Yet my second run was not as smooth and I barely saved a large crash, my time was definitely affected with this and I ended up placing in 3rd.

PRO Super D - 5th of 9
Immediately after the podium presentation for DH, I went straight up the hill again for the Super D
Being the only DH Racer in the Pro Men's Super D, I was excited to see what I could do against a bunch of XC Racers.
The course consisted of the second half of the XC, so it was mostly smooth with a bunch of switchbacks.
I am super happy to place in the top 5 in this group and to be competitive with Pro XC racers.

CAT 1 XC - 3rd of 14
This race was brutal...24 miles, 3,200 feet of climbing and all done in 1hr 50min.
With this being my 3rd race of the weekend, my legs were feeling it and it took me till my second lap to get into a groove.
I was the 6th of 14 to the top of the first hill climb and from there I had my work cut out for me. By the end of my 3rd lap I was catching Pros and the last remnants of the Beginners Men 50+.
Did I mention that this race was brutal, but I am very happy with this finish and the continuing confirmation of my training for the upcoming Downieville All Mountain Race.

CCCX Cross-Country #8

Last weekend, a couple Point One Racing athletes braved the struggle and hardship of cross-country racing. With chain guides, flat pedals, baggy clothes and a downhill rider mentality it was on! Alex and Mike Amaral both charged hard and managed to put up some impressive results, showing the XC crowd that Point One Racing can compete on all levels.
