CCCX Race 5/25/08

Cloudy skies kept the temperatures cool at CCCX DH #6 in scenic Salinas, CA. The series is beginning to wrap up with only two races left, nerves are tense as point chases start to tighten up. Pro class leader and Point One racer Ian Massey had a slight bobble that gave him a third place finish. Ian has been testing our new products and is quite impressed by them, thank you for your support!

Point One president Jimmy Amaral is currently battling Ian for the overall lead, this past weekend Jimmy secured valuable points by laying down fast time giving him 1st place. This win was a sigh of relief that Point One products are second to none.
Style check for Alex Amaral and Chris Lauber. Both are a serious threat in the junior expert class and both had an impressive finish, 3rd and 6th place respectively.

Scott Seery has been in first place in the Expert 45-54 class, this past weekend he won by a convincing 10 seconds. Scott has also been crucial in testing new Point One products, we thank him for his support.

On April 6th, Mike Amaral had a horrific training ride crash just across the street from where this race was held. After an overnight stay in the local hospital, it was determined that Mike bruised his collarbone, fractured his wrist and broke several bones in his lower back. His prognosis wasn't good, it would be a long hard road for Mike to fully recover. Miraculously he was able to heal quickly and start walking again shortly after the crash. Surprised by doctors, it did not take long for Mike to climb back on the bike and start riding again. This is truly an inspiring story, Mike raced again for the first time since the crash and managed a podium spot in the Expert 45-54 class! Way to go! We are all excited to see his presence back at the races!

Special thanks to Rick Rasmussen for the photos. We will see you all back next month for the final two rounds!

Welcome to the US Open!

Point One made an appearance at this year's US Open at the majestic Mountain Creek resort in Vernon, NJ. Man-eating spiders and lyme-disease infested ticks did not slow me down enough to where I could not report the news of this fantastic upset! (Please I apologize for the quality of the photos, they were taken with my phone)

Here is the view from the start where riders must negotiate 1100 feet of descent in less than 3 minutes...

Here is a shot looking down at one of the craziest sections on the course, quite a few riders went down through here.

This is the same section but looking up towards it.

One of the amateur men riding down this giant rock slab.

One of the pro ladies coming through a quick straightaway into a step down.

Here is the step-down coming out of the straightaway.

The beginning of a fast section of S-berms in the trees, this is where your cornering ability will make or break you.

On the way out of the S-berms.

Here is a shot of a pro rider coming out of the woods.

A beautiful view of the resort from the same spot.

The pride and joy of Aptos, CA...Evan Turpen (Kona/Fox Shox).

Fastest American qualifer Curtis Keene (Decline Team America) snapped one of his cogs in half after landing the massive jump before the finish line.

5th place went to Andrew Neethling (Mongoose) with a 2:41.430

- no photo
4th place went to Matti Lehikoinen (MS Intense) 2:41.011

3rd place went to last year's winner Bryn Atkinson (GT/Hyundai), 2:38.603

2nd place went to the fastest qualifer, current World Champion, World Cup Champion and the favorite to win by far...Samuel Hill (Monster Energy/Iron Horse) 2:37.326

1st place and the upset went to Canada's Steve Smith (Cove Bikes), 2:36.737.

Awesome venue, great prize money and world-class riders! We will see you back again next year!

Santa Ynez NMBS 5/17/2008

A couple of our Point One Racing junior team members made the drive down to majestic Los Olivos, CA for the 2008 Santa Ynez NMBS. Hot and dry conditions made the short course especially challenging! Results to follow...

Alex Amaral was determined for a podium finish but just barely missed the box by getting 5th place, he ran an impressive 2:06.

Alex also qualified 9th in DS. He uses the Split-Second 50 stem to aid his sharp cornering capabilities. Keep an eye out for this kid! He will be a junior for a couple more years and winning everything!

Chris Lauber had a solid time of 2:10 and pulled off a nice 15th place in the stacked Jr. X field. Awesome job guys!
